Nevena Saykova
Advocacy and Policy Adviser

Nevena Saykova supports GCPEA’s advocacy related to promoting the endorsement and implementation of the Safe Schools Declaration and the Guidelines for Protecting Schools and Universities from Military Use during Armed Conflict. Her work experience relates to international security and the promotion of human rights and international humanitarian law. Prior to joining GCPEA, Nevena worked as Research and Project Assistant at the Democratic Control of Armed Forces providing conceptual, practical and content support to the Montreux Document on pertinent international obligations and good practices for effective oversight and accountability of the private security sector. Before that, she worked at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on restoring family links and child protection issues. Nevena also completed an internship at UNICEF headquarters in New York, focusing on public partnerships and South-South cooperation opportunities to better leverage donors’ funds for child programs. Nevena holds a Master in International Public Management from Sciences Po Paris and a Bachelor of International Relations from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. She speaks English, French, Spanish, and Bulgarian.
