April 2022: GCPEA met with Mr. Vinicius Trindade, CAAC and POC expert at the NY mission, on 26 April. He assured us that Brazil is a strong supporter of the SSD, and will continue to incorporate this issue throughout its UNSC tenure. The representative suggested that we can advocate for including SSD in the WG on CAAC conclusions on country situations. Brazil will also host the UNSC open debate on CAAC in July – the representative agreed to keep in touch about the theme(s) of the debate. We also discussed the upcoming POC week and the open debate, and agreed to share recommendations to Brazil for their national statement. We briefed the delegate on the upcoming launch of EuA 2022, and discussed endorsement of the SSD by Colombia, encouraging Brazil to share their experience with their Colombian counterparts. Lastly, GCPEA also discussed the idea of organising a GRULAC briefing to sensitize the group on the protection of education and EuA2022 findings, and shared further information on the state-led implementation network.
July 2022: At the UNSC CAAC debate : “Neighbouring, transit and host countries must ensure that children arriving in their territories are immediately identified and have full access to all public services and social benefits, regardless of their migration status. Such services should include access to education, in accordance with last year’s resolution 2601 (2021).”
November 2022: Endorsed the Political Declaration on Strengthening the Protection of Civilians from the Humanitarian Consequences Arising from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas (EWIPA) on 18 November during an International Conference hosted by Ireland, the leader and penholder behind the Declaration.
