January 2017: The Geneva Mission believe that El Salvador can support the initiative and invited me to share information by email. The rep also asked me to share the invitation for the conference when it is available, and he will use it to motivate his government to send the Ambassador in Buenos Aires with the possibility that they can endorse the Declaration at the conference.

February 2017: Vero met the El Salvador Ambassador in Paris at the Paris Principles conference and she was also positively disposed.

March 2017: Attended Buenos Aires Conference on Safe Schools. Geneva rep believes that endorsement is possible. More engagement needed.

April 2017: GCPEA wrote to the Foreign Minister.

May 2017: The Ministry of Defense of Argentina wrote to El Salvador to encourage the endorsement

September 2017: GCPEA met with the Deputy Ambassador in Geneva who advised that El Salvador had decided to endorse the Declaration. However, the endorsement has not yet come through. GCPEA is following up with the Mission in Geneva, shared the Open Debate letter, and has requested the Missions of Argentina and Norway to conduct peer advocacy.

November 2017: El Salvador announced its endorsement

February 2018:In advance of the End Violence Solutions Summit in Stockholm on 14-15 February, GCPEA issued letter to El Salvador, calling on them to highlight the Declaration during the summit.

July 2018: STC provded trainings on the SSD and SC’s work on the protection of schools in conflict. Both in Colombia, with programmes colleagues, the “border team” working on the humanitarian crisis at the border the Venezuela and the field staff in Arauca. And with other LAC colleagues – among them people from Honduras, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua.El Salvador are interested in working on implementation of the SSD and in looking at the applicability of the SSD within the context of violence in the country. They are collaborating with SC Spain in the development of the research on the impact of the violence by maras and gangs on education.

July 2018: Human Rights Watch made a submission to the Committee on the Rights of the Child for its upcoming review of El Salvador, in which we encourage the Committee to congratulate El Salvador for endorsing, and encourage them to implement

March 2019: mentioned their endorsement of the Safe Schools Declaration during the Clustered Interactive Dialogue with the SRSG CAAC Virginia Gamba, HRC Geneva. May 2019: Participated in the Third International Conference in Palma.

November 2022: Endorsed the Political Declaration on Strengthening the Protection of Civilians from the Humanitarian Consequences Arising from the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas (EWIPA) on 18 November during an International Conference hosted by Ireland, the leader and penholder behind the Declaration.
