February 2017: Bede and Gisela met with GVA mission rep. She noted that Armenia had introduced the operative paragraph regarding attacks on schools, and the PP “strongly condemning” attacks on schools in last years Right to Education resolution. March 2017: Endorsed the Declaration. March 2017: Attended Buenos Aires Conference on Safe Schools.
April 2017: Attended post-conference briefing for missions in New York. Emailed Zama in follow up.
September 2017 UNSC: GCPEA sent a letter to the Ambassador in New York asking to raise the issue of attacks and military use, draw attention to the Declaration and Guidelines and congratulate them on endorsing since the last debate in view of the Open Debate on children and armed conflict.
March 2018: Following advocacy by GCPEA, support was expressed by Armenia, to references to the Declaration in operative and preambular paragraphs of the Resolution A/HRC/37/L.33.
July 2018: Joined Argentina’s joint statement to the UN SC during the open debate on children and armed conflict. JCo-sponsored resolution 2427 (2018).Mentioned and welcomed the Safe Schools Declaration during the statement to the SC.
March 2019: Clustered Interactive Dialogue with the SRSG CAAC Virginia Gamba, HRC Geneva: joined Norway’s joint statement on the Safe Schools Declaration.
May 2019: Participated in the Third International Conference in Palma.
May 2019: during the UN Security Council Open Debate on Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict referred to the Safe Schools Declaration.
October 2021: cosponsored UNSRC2601.
December 2021: Positive statement at the arria meeting on the protection of education during armed conflict citing the SSD. “Protection of children’s right to education is a long-standing priority for Armenia, as reflected in our national policies, as well as within the framework of our international cooperation aimed at the implementation of the commitments under the Safe Schools Declaration”; “Targeted attacks on the educational institutions led to the destruction of 18 schools and 6 kindergardens in Nagorno-Karabakh, depriving 28 thousand children of their right to education.”; “Urges Member States to ensure that attacks and threats of attacks against schools and educational facilities are investigated and those responsible are duly prosecuted”; “Armenia reiterates its strong commitment to protect the education from attack, in line with the Safe Schools Declaration”.
July 2022: At the UNSC CAAC debate :
– Condemn attacks on schools, students, and education personal, including military use of schools and universities
– Referred to targeted attacks on educational facilities in context of conflict with Azerbaijan
– Reiterate their commitment to the goals enshrined in the Safe Schools Declaration
September 2022 Transforming Education Summit: Armenia: “committed to create an attractive, safe and secure” school system
October 2022: During the review of Armenia by CEDAW, the Armenian officials were questioned about their implementation of the Safe Schools Declaration
