November 2017: Sent an email to the mission in Geneva requesting a meeting.
July 2022: Apolline and I met with the DPR Ida Fauzana Ibrahim. This was the first meeting with Brunei. The DPR was interested to learn more about the development process of the SSD. She suggested that the low level of endorsement in Asia was due to lack of knowledge and the fact that endorsing a Declaration that refers to armed conflict might be portrayed as that country being in conflict. GCPEA explained why it was important for states not in conflict to endorse, providing example of good practices from other regions. GCPEA also highlighted the fact that as a troop contributing country, and in line with UN DPO policies, it was important for Brunei to endorse the SSD. We suggested that September 09 and/or the Transforming Education Summit would both be great opportunities to announce endorsement. The DPR said that she would report back to capital with a positive assessment. Overall, a positive first meeting.
