July 2018: HRW met with the mission in NY following a briefing with the CARICOM group. They followed up with the mission and shared the template letter for endorsement.
October 2022: On 28 October, we met in person with Cindy Novelo, First Secretary at the NY mission. This is the first time that GCPEA meets with a delegate from Belize. She was not familiar with the issue so we provided a comprehensive overview. She stressed that education is a key priority for her government (participated in the Transforming Education Summit) and she is not sure why they have not endorsed yet – could be lack of awareness and priority. We followed up in writing with relevant information for her capital. Overall, an interesting and relatively positive first meeting.
November 2022: Following Colombia’s endorsement to the SSD, GCPEA convinced and supported the Permanent Mission of Argentina in Geneva to send a Note Verbale to the remaining GRULAC non-endorsing states: Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela – encouraging them to endorse the SSD.
