February 2019: GCPEA met with the Legal Advisor. This was the first meeting with Burundi. She was interested to know how education could be maintained during armed conflict. GCPEA shared examples of steps that can be taken to ensure continuation of education, such as alternative delivery of education via radio programs in Somalia and Niger. She specifically asked why GCPEA was interested to meet with Burundi and denied any military use of schools in the country. She stated that education is a priority for the government and that education has not been disrupted during the crisis. She requested a copy of the Burundi profile from Education Under Attack 2018. Follow-up: GCPEA followed up in writing, sharing a letter for the Foreign Minister and Burundi’s profile in Education under Attack 2018.
