November 2017: Sent an email to the mission in Geneva requesting for a meeting.
April 2019: GCPEA met with the Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission. This was the first meeting with Eritrea. GCPEA provided a general overview of the Declaration and the Guidelines and encouraged their attendance at the Spain conference. The expert talked about Eritrea’s war for independence and their women’s rights and social justice movement. She said protecting schools should be an ethical practice and that endorsement the Safe Schools Declaration seemed possible for Eritrea because of how progressive they are on children’s rights and right to education. She was interested in the Spain conference and requested more information about the UNDP sponsorship. Regarding the Open Debate on sexual violence, the expert said that they would not make a statement and shared that they were more active on issues relating to CAAC.
